[RECIPE] Green Tea Ice Cream (No Ice Cream Maker)

There are a lot of foods and drinks that you can make with the miraculous ingredient called "the green tea powder". You can make green tea latte, green tea ice cream, green tea cookies, green tea pudding, green tea pannacotta, green tea roll cake, mochi green tea, and other creation that you can think of. I made some of it and of course I'll post it later ;)

This miraculous ingredient is quite expensive. I bought it for IDR 30k for around 50 grams green tea powder if I'm not mistaken. I forgot to take a pict of it :(

This time I made green tea ice cream. At first after I bought that powder I didn't really know what I was going to make and my dad was suggested to make ice cream, so i made it.

I'm a freak green tea lovers, yes yes yes. And I think that ice cream is the dish I like the most from green tea. I don't know why but everytime I am going to buy an ice cream, I usually buy the green tea flavor. I think I can't live without greentea desserts LOL.

I adapted the recipe from "Spoonful Blog" :) I put a little more of the matcha powder but didn't add more sugar so it's a bit bitter because a lot of matcha which I like it that way.

Result: 3/4 part filled of 20 x 20 cm container box

Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons green tea powder (matcha)
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 3 egg yolks (room temperature)
- 600 ml milk
- 500 ml heavy cream

How to make it:
1. In a small bow, mix the green tea powder with 2 tablespoons granulated sugar.

2. In a separate bowl, mix together the egg yolks and remaining sugar. In this step, you have to be careful because the egg yolk and the sugar might not be able to fused perfectly.

3. Pour the milk into a small pan and gently heat taking care not to let it boil (ideally the temperature of the milk should be 176 degrees F) and stir it continuously.

4. Remove the milk from the heat and mix a few spoonfuls of the warm milk with the green tea powder and sugar in a small bowl. When you have a smooth paste, add it to the remaining milk in the pan, then gradually combine with the egg yolk mixture.

4. Return mixture to the stove and heat slowly over low heat (taking care to not let the mixture boil), until the mixture coats the back of a spoon. Remove from the heat, strain through a fine sieve, and allow to cool completely.

5. Lightly whip the cream and then add it to the cold green tea-milk mixture.

6. Transfer the mixture to a large container and [chill for an hour or two in the refrigerator] and then put it in the freezer.

7. As ice crystals start to form, remove, and mix well with a spoon (use a wooden spoon and stir very vigorously) to break them up and return the mixture to the freezer.

8. Repeat this a few times as it freezes to ensure that the ice cream is smooth. This step is very important if you wanna have a perfect ice cream's texture.

Poor me, I used cooking cream (I bought it wrongly, blame the shopkeeper because she said that it's the same with the cream that I used to buy ~.~ and I didn't really pay attention to the word "cooking cream" lol) and for the last step, I didn't do it like it used to be, I only stir it one time and it's already completely frozen. So the ice cream's texture is rough, not smooth and crystalized.

It's just the different texture (which you can see from the the photo) from usual ice cream.  But, the taste is superrrrrrrrr delicious, and it really suits me well. I love it seriously, I just can't stop eat them everyday.

[RECIPE] A Delicious Snack, Fried Mantou

It's been a long time since my last post. Not too long actually, but I feel it's quite long lol. Anyway, I've been busy spent some time with my friends because my pretty n lovely holiday is over :( And I've been busy packed my things to bring to my dorm. I'm not ready to go back to my daily routine but here I am already passed my Monday morning class and finally find the right thing to post on my blog :)

I've always snacking at late afternoon, around 4-5 hours after lunch. Yeah, that's why I'm getting fat a lot :( So, I'm going to share this super easy and delicious snacks.

This menu were served at one of a dimsum restaurant near my house. One day when me and my friends were about to ordered this menu at that restaurant, it's out of stock. We were so sad because we wanted to eat that so badly. So after I went back home, I were inspired to make this.

You only need frozen mantou and sweetened condensed milk, you can find both of it easily at the supermarket, and oil and a pan to do the deep fried process.

How to make this is sooooooooo freaking easy, you only need to deep fried the mantou with medium heat. After it's getting brown, put it on a plate and pour the sweetened condensed milk on top of it. Voila! It's done. You can eat it right away! ;)

P.S: This snacks may cause you can't stop eating them and off course getting fat! ;)

[REVIEW] Koi Cafe Indonesia

I can't sleep because I drank venti sized Caramel Macchiato Starbucks at 5 PM alone! So here I am digging my laptop to find something to post on blog.

Yes, I'm a green-tea freak, super freak :) LOL. And for the past few months I kinda get crazy with their Green Tea Macchiato, since KOI Cafe (finally) opened their first branch in Indonesia in Emporium Pluit Mall, which is sooooooo close to my house but the freakin' traffic made it so long to get there. Jakarta oh Jakarta :(

KOI Cafe is from our neighbor, Singapore. In here there are only 2 size of drink, small and medium, but in Singapore there are 3 size, they have large size. The large size cost around 4 SGD. Their bottle size are just like Starbucks size, their large is just like Sbucks's venti, the medium is just like Sbucks's grande. In Indonesia, the small size cost around IDR 15k++ and the medium size cost IDR 20k++. The menu also different between Indo and SG, I think SG got more kinds of drinks.

There are only 2 KOI Cafe in Jakarta and both of them are in North Jakarta and both of them are kinda close -__- It's like only 3-5 Km distances between them, LOL. Yes, both of them are crowded especially on weekend.

The one in Emporium Pluit Mall are bigger than the other one, got more space to sit, but still it's hard to find a place to sit and enjoy our drinks on weekend and sometime on weekdays too. I'm telling you the queuing at weekend is crazy. Even tho you find a place to sit, you still can't enjoy your drinks peacefully because it's located in front of an electronic store! The positive thing is it's free music, and the negative thing is it's too loud. This cafe is on an open space so it's more like a stand or kiosk.

 (From KOI Indonesia's Facebook)

The latest one is in Baywalk Mall. This place is smaller than the other one, but this is in a store. The main point from this cafe is the sofa that have a very beautiful view straight to the sea. I do always feel amazed by the scenery *__* Anyway, the negative side about that sofa is there are no tables, but there are a lot of electric socket under that sofa. There are also sofa with table but there aren't any electric socket and the scenery is the barista LOL. It's okay actually because sometimes their interactions are funny anddddd they are quite good looking tho HAHA (results from visited them a hundred times and sat there for more than 2 hours sometimes) *more laughing at myself* HAHAHAHAHAHA.

You can clearly see the sea, super love this place!

If you pay more attention to their kitchen, you'll realized the way their cook their tea is a bit different from others because there are a lot of pipes which I don't know what is the function.

Actually, I'm not only tried their Green Tea Macchiato, I tried their other menu too but I only took photo of the green tea because love is in the air between me and that drink HAHAHA.

Medium size IDR 21k

These are the drinks that I have tried:
1. Green Tea Macchiato

(From KOI Cafe's website)

Do you guys know the 1st top reason why I like this drink? The Cream! Omg, I can even lick it until nothing left, super delicious but yeah this consist a LOT of fat :( How to drink this drink is cut a little at the edge and drink it right away from there. But I prefer to shake it first until it mixed because if you drink like their way, at the end the only left is green tea, and the taste is just like green tea. This drink suits me well, blend in my mouth and the cream? Geez, it's melting in my mouth! For me I always ordered it with 70% sugar, this is perfect for me, not too sweet and not too plain, and no ice for me, it's already cold and the ice won't melt so nothing will change the originality of the taste :)

2. Black Tea Macchiato

(From KOI Cafe's website)

It's just the different kind of tea, this one is black tea. I think, this black tea have the same taste with those tea that we can buy in supermarket. Not too special for me.

3. Passion Fruit Macchiato
(From KOI Cafe's website)

If you want something fresh and you want it to be macchiato, this would be perfect! Sour, not too sweet, and so fresh. To be honest, this doesn't suit me because I don't like sour hehe :)

4. Mango Machhiato
(From KOI Cafe's website)

Another not really special for me. But for you who get bored with tea and want something not too sour, this will suits you.

5. Bubble Milk Tea

(From KOI Cafe's website)

I personally like their milk tea, not really special but better than other's store in taiwanese tea business. Oh, their bubbles? I love it too. It's small and not too chewy.

I don't know about other toppings because the only one I've tried is their bubbles. Not really interested in adding toppings to my drink because even without topping, it's already expensive -__-

6. Ice Cream Milk Tea.
Sorry but I didn't find a catchy pict of this drink :(
They put the ice cream first in the bottle about 2 scoops and then put it in the freezer or refrigerator. When someone ordered it, they only pour the milk tea and voila! Here you go. This one is quite unique for me lol. But the taste isn't as unique as it's heard. At the end, the only left is the ice cream because it's really hard to stir and mixed it perfectly. Tips from me, order it with less ice or even no ice, it's better, because the ice already like filled 1/3 of the bottle lol.

Overall, the other drinks except macchiato is just ordinary, doesn't have something really special but still taste better from their competitors which already slowing down while they are shining bright. They really stand out because of their macchiato, it's really different from others, and they are truly the best for that! Both of the store have the same taste, they quite standardized.

We can say that these drinks are quite expensive. The price that we paid for KOI's medium size, we can get large size at other kinds of store. But the medium size is perfect, not too little and not too much. If I see the large size I think I'll throw up and off course get fat because too much cream geez for the sake of my health I think I should control myself HAHAHAHA :D

P.S: Sorry for the bad quality drink's photos, blame Koi Cafe website lol

[REVIEW] Starbucks Chestnut Macchiato (Seasonal Drink)

Hello February... I know I know I'm late haha. Anyway hope all of our wish will be come true in this month..

So a few days ago I went to Starbucks to meet my friend. Okay, who doesn't love Sbucks? Me? I'm in love with them so much geez you don't know how much I love Sbucks, you can see how much by visit my instagram (@brunoitsdevina) and I'm sure all of you will get shocked. LOL.

At first I wanted to order Caramel Macchiato, but the barista told us about their new menu which is a seasonal drink called Chestnut Macchiato. The barista also said that this is even better than the caramel so me and my friend gave it a try.

Grande size, IDR 45k

I ordered the hot one because the weather kinda cloudy (and after we sat, it was raining so I didn't wrong ordered the hot one). Off course I ordered it with low fat milk, I don't want to get A LOT of fat, at least I reduced it a bit. My friend ordered the iced one with soy milk. In Indonesia, you have to add IDR 7,5k if you choose to change the milk into soy milk.

Mine taste super great!! Not too sweet even tho I didn't ordered it to be less sweet. Maybe it didn't contain a lot of coffee or it blend perfectly with the milk, the coffee taste not too strong which I like. I also don't like something too creamy, this one maybe because I ordered it with low fat one, which I always do, didn't taste too creamy (as we know that low fat taste lighter than full cream). At top it covered with chestnut sweet sauce which kinda taste like caramel but it's abrasive, not like an ordinary sweet sauce, it's rough kinda have a texture, but I like it, taste nice tho.

But my friend's drink taste superrrrrr weird and I don' like it :( For me the soy milk covered the chestnut taste, means all I can taste is the soy milk. Maybe it's because I don't really like soy milk but my friend liked it, she was fine with that, so yeah..

Overall, I like this. This suits me very very well :)

But as you know, in every Starbucks, by every barista, the taste could be different. I'll try it another time in another place..

Let me know if you already try it :)
